The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
