Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the high-speed corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
